Spring Into Wellness

Although we spend a lot of time talking about "Wellness", this is the perfect time of year to revisit the essential components of a wellness vs a "sick" focused lifestyle and related daily habits.

The most important wellness foundation no doubt is well-balanced and nutritious diet. This is fundamental for overall health. This includes consuming a variety of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and staying hydrated. In todays day and age it also means avoiding processed, foods, snacks and beverages.


Regular exercise is crucial for maintaining a healthy body and mind. It should include aerobic activities like walking, running, swimming, yoga, and lifelong weight and resistance training too.

Prioritizing our mental well-being is essential. Practices such as mindfulness, meditation, and stress management techniques contribute to a balanced mental state. Stay on the look out for distractions from daily life that can just suck you right in especially given the amount of pure crap spewed daily by politicians and the media.


Maintaining a consistent sleep routine and ensuring sufficient hours of rest are key components of wellness. This is where maintaining schedules on most days with regard to all our other healthy habits can make such a huge difference.

Drinking an adequate amount of water is crucial for bodily functions. In fact this alone is a gamechanger for so many patients we see. Staying properly hydrated supports so many physiological processes, the biggest are circulation and kidney health. But you'll likely notice other benefits including less aches and pains, more energy and better sleep.

Having effective stress coping mechanisms, such as deep breathing, relaxation techniques, or hobbies, is important for mental and physical health. Building and maintaining positive relationships with others contributes to emotional well-being. Social connections can provide support during challenging time. Preventive health care that includes regular check-ups, screenings and physician visits are crucial for preventing and detecting health issues early on. Of course this includes maintaining healthy lifestyle habits, such as avoiding smoking/vaping, limiting alcohol intake, and maintaining a healthy weight, contribute to mental and our overall well-being.

Don't forget to be engaging in activities that stimulate the mind and promote personal growth, such as reading, learning new skills, or pursuing hobbies, is beneficial for mental health.

It's important to note that wellness is a holistic concept, and the specific elements of course vary based on individual preferences, health conditions, and cultural factors.
